DSC
Back
In a simpler age, security was ensured by little more
than a lock and a key. Today, security is a highly diversified global industry.
Hundreds of thousands of businesses and individuals provide security and safety
systems to customers that range from homeowners and apartment tenants to nuclear
power stations.
DSC provides this industry with a full spectrum of
sensors, controls and systems. Our direct sales force, regional offices and
worldwide network of distributors provide security companies access to the
industry's latest technology.
A Brief History
For two decades, DSC has been dedicated to the design of electronic security
products that provide individuals, families, businesses and communities with a
safer and more secure environment. DSC offers increased peace of mind and safety
by means of technically advanced, easy-to-use products. As a young entrepreneur,
and before founding DSC, John Peterson's first business was the sale and
installation of security systems manufactured by others. This hands-on
experience enabled him to foresee significant opportunities in the design and
manufacturing of microprocessor-based products that would provide advanced
technology and superior value to security system installers. Ahead of his time
and with an eye to the future, founder John Peterson named his company Digital
Security Controls in 1979, long before control panels were routinely designed
using microprocessors. The newly formed company introduced unique products that
shocked the industry and quickly gained popularity. John Peterson's personal
high tech philosophy, dedication to product quality and demand for customer
satisfaction have been the catalysts for both product innovations and the growth
of the company. In 1979, DSC introduced the CP-1 Burglar Alarm Control Panel to
the market, hand-assembled and packaged by John and his assistants. The Canadian
market took notice and dealers were immediately impressed with the CP-1's
improved engineering, design, features and reliability. Several other 'CP'
products were successfully brought to market giving DSC a solid footing in the
security industry and the financial means to take the next steps in corporate
and product expansion. In 1986, DSC introduced the microprocessor-based PC2000.
The development of this outstanding and innovative product facilitated the
company's expansion into the American and other International markets. The
product line was again enhanced in 1994 with the introduction of wireless
technology and a variety of new detection devices. Additional expansion was
achieved through the acquisition of several technology companies designing
complementary products. This broadened and enhanced the scope of DSC's
operations. The quality and reliability of products offered by DSC has earned
industry respect and trust in markets around the globe. This trust is supported
by testing and approvals from virtually every relevant agency.
Research
Research is the cornerstone of DSC's commitment to technical leadership in the
electronic security industry. At DSC, scientists, engineers and technologists
create advanced electronic security technologies. Housed in a separate facility
in Canada, this team is focused solely on research and development. Their
contributions have made it possible for DSC to file for more than 70 patents, 30
of these in the last 3 years alone. Every year, a large percentage of DSC gross
revenue is reinvested for research and development purposes. In their research
and development capacity, the DSC Engineering groups actively pursue product
improvements. Utilizing expertise and skills in software programming, hardware
design, acoustics, IR, RF, imaging, network technology, digital signal
processing and more, this research is aimed specifically at bringing to market
the next generations of products.
DSC has a mandate both to respond to market demands for improved products, and
to lead the market by designing totally new and innovative products. In control
panel design, we focus on reducing physical size and component count, major
objectives being cost reduction and increased reliability. In sensor research,
DSC is currently working on new generations
of sophisticated and reliable sensors. Extensive testing is an essential
counterpart to new designs and product improvements. DSC's Software Quality
Assurance and Compliance labs are fully equipped to test all aspects of both
software and hardware design. All of this research and development is driven by
DSC's unwavering commitment to provide its customers with industry-leading,
cost-effective products that are reliable, install quickly, are easy to use and
service, esthetically pleasing, and easily adapted to a wide range of physical
environments.
Manufacturing
DSC is not only one of the
world's most successful security product companies, it is also one of the
largest electronic security equipment manufacturers, with a collective line of
more than 700 products. Production facilities use the most advanced, automated
electronic assembly equipment available. DSC operates with a 24 hour a day, 7
day a week production capability, thus ensuring the ability to meet the volume
and delivery requirements of every order. DSC has an Enterprise Resource
Planning system that provides overall manufacturing efficiency, control and
responsiveness. The manufacturing divisions also maintain ongoing interaction
with the Engineering, R & D and Marketing Product Management teams to facilitate
rapid development of new products. DSC's Total Quality Management program sets
high in-house standards and guarantees that all DSC products are rigorously
tested to meet very precise specifications. And it's paid off. DSC's tight
manufacturing controls have been recognized through ratings and listings by most
of the world's approval agencies and with ISO9001 certification. This particular
rating is an internationally recognized benchmark of quality and ensures DSC
customers of a true quality system.
